Kirkwood Challenge Cross Country, Short Track, and Super D Events

August 19 - 22, 2010 at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

 

SUPER-D, Friday 8/20, 3PM, SIGN-UP At Kirkwood Mountain Bike Center 1:00 to 2:30PM.
COURSE: It starts way up top of Vista. With 1400' of elevation drop and maybe 150' of gain.

CROSS COUNTRY, Saturday: Beginner & Sport 9AM, Experts & Pros 1PM SIGN-UP: At Kirkwood Mountain Bike Center, Friday after Super-D (approx. 5pm) & Saturday 7 to 8:30AM and after the Beginner & Sport Races (approx. noon).
COURSE: It's the same 5.1 mile course that was raved about at last year's Kirkwood 9 to 5 endurance race. It's mostly singletrack and has a bit of everything; steep climbs, techncial sections and flowing roller-coaster sections. See our website for a course map and profile. 2 laps for beginners, 3 for sport, 4 for experts.

SHORT-TRACK XC, Sun. 8/22, All amateur categories 12 Noon, Pros immediately after amateur awards. (approx 1pm.)
SIGN-UP: At Kirkwood Mountain Bike Center, 10:30AM
COURSE: It's a fun 1/2-mile with lots of twists, turns and short climbs. It's FAST and fun and most of the race can be viewed from the start/finish.

WHEELIE CONTEST: Right after the Short-Track $5 per person to enter, winner-take-all!


HUFFY TOSS: Right after the Wheelie Contest. FREE! Using the UHTI (Union Huffy Toss Internationale) rules we award a case of microbrew to the tosser who earns the most points for flinging a Huffy. Points are awarded for distance, for making the bike cartwheel or barrel roll and for the number of parts jettisoned on a single toss.


KIRKWOOD MOUNTAIN BIKE FESTIVAL: This weekend of racing is the kick-off for the 10-Day Kirkwood Festival. During the week there will be a Tahoe Rim Trail ride, a hill-climb (with a gas-grill to the winner!) skills clinics with Jacquie Phelan and Tinker Juarez. The festival ends with a weekend of endurance racing, the 24 Hours of Kirkwood and the Kirkwood Nine to Five.
